The Trip That Didn’t (PM)
We headed out of the marina for the last afternoon trip of the season and hooked south, but realized we had company following us. A small private boat was keeping a close tail on us, the captain opened up the throttle to jokingly race and try and shake them. The joke was on us though when the throttle opened up we blew one of our engines. I had heard the pop and I am no mechanic but when I looked of the back and saw smoke that is never good. (I learned later that a recently repaired seal had broken and the boat was going to be out of commision for awhile while a new replacement engine was brought up.) Thankfully we had only made it as far south as Deception Pass and were able to turn around and limp home on the other engine but it took us a long longer to head back home we would have been in for a long day if it had happened inter or even west of the islands where we frequent. Thankfully the morning trip was great because their last afternoon trip of the season went out with not a bang but a whimper.
